A tower crane is a very important at an urban construction site. This is the largest crane and it can support tons of heavy construction equipment at a high altitude which makes it useful to build skyscrapers. Another important aspect of operating a tower crane at a construction site is the weather up there. An accurate weather forecast is important to make sure no accident occurs. If it is windy up there, it can destabilize the load the crane is carrying and lead to a collapse. It is recommended that the tower cranes handling UAE be cancelled when the weather seems unfavorable. First, let’s get to know the primary parts of a tower crane.

Base

This hefty concrete foundation works as a support to the tall crane. The base bears the entire weight and this helps the crane to stay upright.

Mast

This tower connects to the base as well as to the rotating part of the crane. The triangular lattice structure that you may have noticed on a mast or tower actually gives the tower a lot of strength and sturdiness.

Slewing Unit

This component of a crane is attached to the mast’s top. The slewing unit is what enables a crane to rotate along its axis.

Weight Load

On an average, the mast of a tower crane can go to a height of 80 meters. The crane’s rotating part (the jib) has a maximum reach of about 70 meters. It could lift up to 19- 20 tons with about 20 tons of counterweights. The maximum weight maybe 19 tons but this weight has to be placed closer to the mast than to the end of the jib.

Concrete Foundation

It seems puzzling to see a tower crane stand upright. One thing that helps it stand and function with the efficiency is the concrete foundation at its base which is supposed to be built by the construction company. This foundation is about 30x30x4 feet in measurements and weighs 400,000 in pounds. This bulky concrete makes up for the foundation of the tower crane.

Tower cranes are assembled on site with the help of installers that are sent with it. First, the jib is assembled which is then attached to the mast (at 40 feet during assembling). After that the counterweights are attached with some weight on the other side to balance it out. Only then does the mast rises up in the sky without any mishap. Several technicians are involved in assembling and operating the crane. it is not a one-man job anymore. Tower cranes are crucial to a construction site.
